lux-Airport and Luxair fly to a new horizon

In Sandweiler, next to the imposing Cargolux headquarters, the new Luxair maintenance hangar is now located. The building has a 5,000m² aircraft hall, 2,000m² of workshops and storage areas and 2,800m² of administration buildings to accommodate the 160 or so employees of Luxair Technics.

This project represents an important step in Luxair's development strategy, "a first step towards refleeting, investing in new aircraft" as Gilles Feith, CEO of Luxair explained at the groundbreaking ceremony in May 2022.

This new facility, located southwest of the runway, will replace the historic hangar built in 1951 in Neudorf and will be able to house two large commercial aircraft and one small one. In this huge maintenance hall, the slab - made of 300t of reinforcement and 1,800m³ of concrete - is equipped with an underfloor heating system, energy supply manholes called "PITS" (compressed air/electricity/kerosene vapour extraction) will thus optimise the work of the technicians. 

"The main challenge was to respect the tight schedule, and we made it! The site will be in use by the end of the year," summarises our project manager. After the rehabilitation of the Findel runway, the construction of a retention basin and the E121 security post, to name but a few, this is another project successfully completed for lux-Airport!

In addition to the initial order, the construction of a 250m² guardhouse was added, as well as the external works (user parking and extension of the taxi park on the runway, among others). The latter will be carried out in temporary association with Karp-Kneip.
